God’s Work in Motion: Synod 2025 Kicks Off in Oji River Diocese

Oji River Diocese Synod 2025: Opening Day

The 2025 Synod of the Diocese of Oji River commenced with great spiritual fervour and purposeful deliberation, setting the tone for what promises to be a remarkable and impactful gathering of the faithful.

Holy Communion Service with the Lord Bishop

The day began with a solemn Holy Communion Service, presided over by the Lord Bishop of the Diocese of Oji River. The Bishop’s presence and leadership brought grace and direction as the Diocese committed the Synod into the hands of God. The liturgy was marked by deep worship, reverent prayers, and a strong sense of unity among the delegates.

Stirring Sermon on Familiarity in the Church

One of the most powerful moments of the day was the sermon delivered by Rev. Raph Onyekachi, our beloved priest currently serving in the diaspora. He spoke passionately on the theme of “Familiarity in the Church”, warning against the spiritual complacency that can arise from taking God, His servants, and sacred ordinances for granted. His message was both convicting and refreshing, calling the church back to reverence and holy awe in our walk with God.

Motion on the Diocesan Hospital

A pivotal session followed, as Dr. Ekene Ejimofor, a cherished son of the Diocese, moved a Synod motion concerning the Diocesan Hospital. His motion emphasized the urgent need to enhance the hospital’s facilities and services, aiming to transform it into a beacon of health and compassion for the region. The motion received enthusiastic support and was a key moment of the day’s proceedings.

Progress Reports on Strategic Diocesan Projects

The Synod also featured presentations on two major diocesan initiatives:

Prof. Adaobi Igbo, Chairperson of the SPIC, gave an encouraging progress report on the University of Oji River. Her update highlighted milestones achieved, current challenges, and the next phase of development, drawing widespread commendation from the house.

The Venerable Professor Innocent Enwelum presented the progress report of the Agricultural Enterprise, showcasing strides in food production, sustainability efforts, and economic empowerment driven by the Diocese’s agricultural vision.

Engaging Group Discussions

The day concluded with group discussions by the distinguished delegates of the Synod 2025, where robust conversations and strategic recommendations were made on various diocesan matters. These sessions provided a platform for grassroots input and collective wisdom, embodying the true spirit of synodality.

Conclusion

The first day of the Synod was not only spiritually enriching but also marked by visionary leadership, practical insights, and a deep commitment to the mission of the church. As the Synod continues, there is great anticipation for what God will yet do among His people in the Diocese of Oji River.
